Ray S. Hancock

January 31, 1937 - August 27, 2020

Ray S. Hancock, 83, of rural North Manchester, Indiana passed at 8:19 pm, Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at his residence. Ray was born on Jan. 31, 1937 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Swan and Gracie (Pentigrass) Hancock. He married in 1970 in Warsaw, Indiana to Martha Conley, she survives. He had worked for Pike Lumber Company for nearly 35 years. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing and always enjoyed watching Westerns. He was known to make birdhouses and was fond of spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Martha Hancock; sons Kenneth Lynn Hancock, Hammond and Fred Shepherd, Silver Lake; daughter, Naidene and husband Kenneth Moore, North Manchester and Sara Beeney, North Manchester; grandchildren, William, Tiffany, Amber, Breanna, Kenneth Jr., Samantha, Danny, Jeremy, Keeton, Kayla, and Amanda; 12 great grandchildren, sisters Louvenia Trece, Georgia, Cleo Goins, Georgia and Karen and husband Gary Cooper, Georgia; and brothers, Alfred and wife Jeanette Hancock, Alabama, Warnell and wife Kathy Hancock, Rensselaer, and Marlon and wife Shirley Hancock, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lucy and Shirley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastor Kent Harting officiating. Burial will follow at Gaerte Cemetery, Macy, Indiana. Visitation is 5 pm to 7 pm, Monday, Aug. 31, 2020 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana. Donations can be in Ray’s memory to the COPD Foundation 3300 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Miami, FL 33134.
