Phyllis J. Overmyer

October 11, 1933 - February 20, 2022

Phyllis J. Overmyer, 88, of rural Rochester, Indiana passed at 4:53 am, Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Aperion Care of Demotte, Indiana. Phyllis was born on Oct. 11, 1933 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Roy J. and Mabel (Heifner) Smith. She married on Sept. 16, 1950 in Plymouth, Indiana to Robert D. Overmyer, he survives. She attended school at Richland Center. She had a challenging early life. She was known to say “Every morning I get up and make my bed, because I remember that not everyone has a bed to make.” Phyllis was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She worked for McGill Manufacturing of Culver for 18 years and Ristance Manufacturing of Argos also for 18 years. She was involved with the Historical Power Association for 11 years and was a longtime supporter of 4-H. Phyllis believed there was always room for one more when it comes to children and animals. She is survived by her husband Robert Overmyer; daughter Becky Schmal of Rochester; sons Ricky Dale Overmyer of Rochester and Randy Wayne Overmyer of Rochester; grandchildren Melea, Nicholas, Shawn, Brandon, Justin, Josh, and Christian; and 10 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Leroy. A private family service was held in the Richland Center Cemetery of rural Rochester, Indiana. The arrangements were entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Richland Center Community Building.
