Lawrence 'Larry' A. Basham, 82, of Mishawaka, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Signature Healthcare of Bremen after being in failing health for three years. Larry was born May 8, 1932, in Logansport, to Stuart and Juanita (Benson) Basham. He married Mary Etta Cox on May 18, 1952, in Fort Smith, Ark. He worked for American Electric Power for 26 years as a lineman and a supervisor. He also owned and operated, with his wife, South Bend Pools and also 3E Electric and Construction Inc. for many years. Larry graduated in 1950 from Logansport High School, where he played football and ran track. He then got redshirted at the University of Minnesota where he had a scholarship. He was then drafted during the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Valley Home Builders. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming and loved Notre Dame. Survivors include his wife, Mary Etta Basham, Mishawaka; daughter Cindy and husband Richard Osborn, Mishawaka; grandsons Blaine Osborn, Seattle, and Neil Osborn, West Lafayette; and brother Jerry and wife Connie Basham, Kokomo. He was preceded in death by his bothers, Franklin Thomas and Phillip Basham. His funeral service is 3 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Thad Stewart officiating. Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial is at Akron Cemetery. Memorial contributions are open to donor's choice.
