Arthur "Sonny" H. Giesler
August 9, 1938 - January 26, 2016
On the morning of Jan. 26, 2016, Sonny passed peacefully in his home in rural Rochester, Indiana. He was comforted by his loving wife as he went to be with his Lord and Savior. Sonny was 77 years old. He was born in the town of Eldon, Oklahoma on August 9, 1938. He was the son on the late Earl and Edith (Tudor) Giesler. On Oct. 23, 2003 he married Patricia McKenzie, she survives. He retired from Midwest Operating Engineers of Valparaiso, Indiana where he was a heavy equipment operator and a proud member of the Local 150. Sonny lived life to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing the Tippecanoe River right outside his home. He loved to hunt and eagerly looked forward to deer hunting season every fall. He enjoyed playing softball and was a diehard Cubs fans. He loved to travel with his wife enjoying trips to Alaska and the Islands. He was a nature lover enjoying gardening and canning. He was a great cook, famous for his biscuits and gravy. He was also a prankster that loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. Most of all he loved his family, friends, and his dog Anne. He was always eager to do anything for anyone. Sonny is survived by his wife Patricia Giesler; son Dan Giesler of Ft. Collins, CO; two granddaughters Etta and Jessi Giesler; a brother Harold Giesler of Rochester, IN; two step daughters Tammy and husband Chris McClone of Pierceton, IN and Kim and husband Jeff Combs of Los Angeles, CA; and a stepson Jamie and wife Pam Norman of Silver Lake, Indiana . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, and had been married to Ethel Weidmann who is also preceded. Friends and family may call at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana from 12 noon to 2 pm, Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 with the funeral to follow at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jeff Combs will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Leiters Ford Cemetery. Memorial Donation can be made to the Center for Hospice of Plymouth, Indiana. A special thanks to the Center for Hospice of Plymouth for their wonderful care of Sonny during his last weeks.
