Esther "Susie" Copeland

Esther “Susie” Copeland, 100, of rural Silver Lake, Indiana and formerly of Port Richie, Florida passed Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at her daughter’s residence. Susie was born on May 12, 1924, in Palestine, Indiana to the late Arthur and Ethel (Scott) Ervin. She was a graduate of Burket High School, she married the love of her life, Marion Dale Copeland, in the fall of 1942 at Camp Shelby, Louisiana, while he served his country. Their lifelong journey together was filled with love and adventure until Marion’s passing on December 12, 2003. Susie was always wearing a smile and embracing life with enthusiasm to find the positives. She treasured her family above all else, finding immense happiness in their company. She found pleasure in using her creative spirit and passion for painting and writing stories, which was inspired by her own life experiences. She loved gardening, tending to flowers and her time reading her bible. Watching the sunrise, along with the hummingbirds which was her favorite, and all the softness of the morning and the warmth that it gave her. During her years in Florida, Susie was a supporter of helping injured Veterans and found joy in golfing, boating, swimming, and relaxing by the pool with her dear friend Betty. While in Indiana she cherished the family weekend adventures to Salamonie, with their houseboat. Her sister Blanche and husband Clarance would meet them with their houseboat, and Roseanna and Randy would bring their speedboat. The entire family would spend the weekends soaking up the sun while skiing, fishing and exploring nature, not to mention tons of laughter and wonderful memories. Sue enjoyed watching the Golden Girls and Murder She Wrote in her spare time. Susie and Marion shared a great love for travel, exploring the Mississippi River through Illinois with close friends, and traveling out West. Above all, watching and interacting with her great-great grandchildren always brought her immeasurable joy, tons of laughter and so much love. She is survived by her daughter Roseanna and husband Randy Reese of Silver Lake; grandchildren Tammie Reese of Silver Lake and David and wife Sarah Reese of Stella, North Carolina; great grandchildren Branden (Allie), Kaylee (Cynthia), Gavin and bonus great grandson Kelton (Katie); great great grandchildren Tyler and Brynlee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and adopted grandchildren. Susie was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Ethel (Scott) Ervin, husband, Rick Copeland (2014), brothers Scotty and Charlie Ervin, and sisters Blanche Snook and Lillian Ervin. Memorial visitation will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm, Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana.
