Alice V. Balmer

Alice V. Perry Balmer, 95, of Warsaw, Indiana and formerly of rural Akron passed at 7:50 am, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022 at Paddock Springs of Warsaw, Indiana. Alice was born on Aug. 21, 1927 in St. Joseph County, Indiana to the late Ford and Lucille (Searer) Perry. She married on May 19, 1951, in Fort Rucker, Alabama to William E. Balmer, he preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2014. She was a 1945 graduate of Bremen High School. She then furthered her education at Goshen College, attaining her Bachelors of Science in Education. Alice taught school for 32 years. She taught for Bremen (5 years), Madison Township (3 years), Silver Lake (3 years), and North Miami for 18 years. She has been a longtime member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She also served as the UMW President of the Local and Huntington District. She then moved to London, Kentucky where she attended the First United Methodist Church. While in Kentucky she volunteered for the Bennett Center, assisting in Methodist Missions. She then moved back to Bourbon and attended Bourbon First United Methodist Church and served in children’s ministry. Alice was active until the day of her passing. She enjoyed visiting and doing devotions with fellow residents. She is survived by her son Wayne E. and wife Merlinda Balmer of Roann; daughters Jeannie A. and husband Jim Smith of Rochester, Janet L. and husband John Lipps of London, Ky.; grandchildren David, Debra, Shaun, Brian, Jeremy, Jason, Michael and Josh; 14 Great Grandchildren; siblings Angeline and husband Richard Miller of Kansas, Carl Perry and Mary Jeanne of Michigan, Alta Grossman of Bourbon, Alton and wife Pat Perry of Akron, Alverta and husband Howard Alderfer of Warsaw, Alvin Perry of Pierceton, Alethea and husband Devon Rensberger of Rochester and John and wife Tammy Perry of Warsaw. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, son and daughter-in-law Stanley R. and wife Jean Balmer; brother Glade Perry and sisters Arlene Coleman and Avanelle Cook. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 am, Monday, Oct. 3, 2022 at King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone, Indiana with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. The interment will take place in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, Indiana following the service. Visitation hours will be held from 3 pm to 7 pm, Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 at King Memorial Home, Mentone, Indiana. Memorial contributions can be made in Alice’s memory to Beaver Dam Church/Wheels on Fire to assist the community members who are fighting cancer.
